About Us
David grew up with a golden as a child and as soon as we were married another golden quickly joined our family. That was in 1978 and since then we’ve never been without at least one golden retriever in our house. We have been members of The Golden Retriever Club of America and the Dallas/Ft. Worth Golden Retriever Club for about 20 years. Our first show dog was bought as a pet in1985. We were encouraged to try the show ring and finished that dog so easily that we were hooked on competition. Then, of course, our next dog had to be a “show dog”, so we were blessed with BISS Ch. Rockhill Robins Upbeat Tempo SDHF, OD, bred by our great friend and mentor and longtime golden breeder, Claire Firestone and her sister, Janet Lumsden. Robin became our foundation bitch and our kennel name, Tempo, is in honor of her. We use the term “kennel” loosely as none of our dogs live in a typical kennel. We currently live with 6 goldens and they all share our home here in Arlington, Texas (between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth). We also have two dog rooms as part of our home where they spend some time watching their TV when it’s too hot to go out and play. When we have a litter of puppies, we use one of these rooms for whelping and training in the use of a doggie door. Pups are pretty well house broken before they go to their adoptive homes. I’m a stay-at-home mom of goldens and David works mostly from home, so, when we have a litter, they have our constant care, attention and socialization; however, when pups are gone, I’m anxious to get back in that ring! We don't have litters very often. Our first was in 1993 and have only bred 9 litters, and co-bred one litter; however, out of these few breedings, we have 17 American champions (3 of which are in the Show Dog Hall of Fame) and 3 Canadian Champions. Pups from the last breeding are still growing up, but one has a Best In Specialty Sweeps and is pointed, and his littermate won his puppy class at the 2007 Western Regional. It's very rewarding to put a championship on a dog in honor of its quality, but the biggest thrill comes from the news we receive from pet owners telling us what all they're doing with their dogs and how much they are loved. See you at the Golden ring! Barbara Brown
