OUR PURPOSE

Our primary goal is to breed healthy, good-natured, well-built goldens, that conform to the breed standard, that would make the ideal companion for many years to come; however, we also always breed with the hope of producing some show quality puppies in every litter.   We only use dogs with hip, eye and heart clearances and have the true golden temperament.  You can also be assured that your puppy will have had lots of love, attention, and proper socialization.  Our puppies are a very important part of our lives and we’re very committed to finding the very best homes for them.  Not only are we always available for questions or suggestions when there’s a need, but we encourage all owners to stay in touch with us no matter what.  Since we can’t keep every pup we breed, it’s always fun to follow their progress and be able to send them our love.

ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT A PUPPY?

Getting a puppy is a serious commitment and raising a puppy properly is time-consuming, requires a lot of patience, and usually means losing some sleep those first few nights.  The purchase price is just the beginning of the expenses you will incur.  You’ll need the proper crate for crate training, correct collar and leash, grooming tools, toys to chew (instead of your favorite shoes), food and bowls, vet visits, puppy socialization classes and obedience classes.  You’ll probably want to keep several pet rollers on hand too as goldens DO shed.  If you’re a fastidious housekeeper, then you may consider another breed.  Also, goldens HAVE to have companionship.  Don’t expect to be gone most of the day or leave the dog in the back yard for a long period of time and then come home to a calm, collected dog.  If this happens, your dog is probably sick.  As a general rule, the more time you spend with your dog, the better behaved he will be.  The worst part of owning a golden retriever is that they don’t last forever, so be prepared to have your heart broken -  their average life span is about 10 years; however, if you ARE willing to invest your time, money, and your heart in a golden retriever, the reward will be priceless.

ADOPTION PROCESS

After you’ve considered all the pros and cons of owning a dog, and you’ve decided on a golden retriever, you need to complete our Puppy Questionnaire.  After we receive and approve the questionnaire, we’ll contact you about your deposit to get on either our “pet” or “show” list.    If you read the Breed Standard , you’ll see that there are many observations a breeder must make in determining the difference between a “pet” and a “show” prospect.  The decision is often difficult as sometimes the only difference could be something like the length of the neck or the angle of the shoulder, but if we don’t have the right puppy for you in this litter, your deposit will be returned.  In most cases, we don’t exactly pick the puppy for you (unless you ask us to), nor do we just let you come and point to the one you want.  We like to “guide” you in your decision.  Sometimes the pup that seems the most friendly to you and seems to be your puppy may just be the one that is simply not napping at the time.  Or if you want a really mellow fellow, the one you see lying quietly in the corner may just be the one who has been raising a ruckus all day and has just worn himself out!

"I've got a secret."

Pets are sold on a spay/neuter contract, and with what’s called an AKC Limited Registration.  This simply means that any of your pet’s offspring could not be registered with the AKC.  All dogs on a Limited Registration can still participate in obedience, agility, hunting tests and junior showmanship.     They cannot, however, compete in the conformation ring.
